the NFCRV Grant Application Form.
The mission of the National Fund for Catholic Religious Vocations is to fund the educational debt of viable candidates to the religious life in religious institutes with active membership in the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC).
■ Applications will only be accepted from canonically recognized religious institutes with active membership in the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC)--dues paid by Dec. 31 of the year prior to when the application is submitted.
■ Candidates must be conditionally accepted by religious institutes with active membership in the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC). Novices and temporarily professed religious are not eligible.
■ Those religious institutes who received an NFCRV grant in prior years are not eligible to apply in the current year. This gives other member institutes an opportunity to receive grant support in the coming year.
■ As per the terms of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, grants will be awarded to candidates from women’s religious institutes. Additional funds are being secured so that men’s religious institutes will also be eligible to apply for grants this year.
■ Only one candidate grant request per religious institute will be considered.
■ The NFCRV will accept applications between January 7 through April 8, 2019. Receipt of applications will be acknowledged. Online applications only. No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
■ The Director of the NFCRV will review and determine which applications are eligible for consideration. Incomplete applications will not be considered for a grant in the current year, but may be resubmitted the following year.
■ As eligible applications are submitted, the Director will contact the listed Grant Contact Person (see Part I on Grant Application Form) for clarification if needed.
■ The Director of the NFCRV will present eligible applications to the NFCRV Board of Directors for consideration at their April board meeting. Longevity of NRVC membership will be considered.
■ NFCRV anticipates making a minimum of two-multi-year grants for women's and men's religious institutes for a total distribution of $125,000, not to exceed $35,000 per each applying religious institute.
■ The NFCRV will inform all applicants of the status of their request by July 2019.
Grant terms and conditions
■ Grant funds will be given to a religious institute to cover all or part of a candidate’s ongoing student loan payments. The grant amount and terms will be determined by the NFCRV.
■ Grant funds will be distributed quarterly and will continue until which time the candidate (1) takes final vows in the religious institute, or (2) withdraws or is dismissed from the formation program.
■ The grantee religious institute must inform the NFCRV in writing immediately if the candidate withdraws or is dismissed from the formation program. Reimbursement of already distributed funds is not required.
■ Reimbursement will be required if a candidate discontinues and the NFCRV is not informed.
■ Grantee religious institutes must maintain active membership in NRVC during the grant term.
■ An annual report on the candidate’s progress in the institute’s formation program is required. A form will be provided for this submission.
■ The awarded funds will be distributed to the religious institute to assist in the payment of the educational debt of a candidate during his or her formation period. In some cases, the grant may offset the educational debt of a candidate but not completely finance it.
■ The last payment of the grant will coincide with the candidate’s profession of final vows in the religious institute.

1. Candidate information, community information, including size. leadership, and financial need.
2. Uploaded support material (i.e., copy of a recent audit or surplus and loss statements, balance sheet, etc. indicating financial health).
